Hans Burt “ハンス・バート” is an orphan who was saved by Wein, admired him, then became his subordinate.

(He is known as “Hans Bearnt” in localized version of Growlanser II The sense of justice)

He is the most loyal party member to Wein and always follows Wein no matter which side Wein chooses.

Personality

Hans is a cheerful person who fights using throwing knife.

He dreams of building a warm family.

He became the default choice in many events if none of the party members had a high affection for Wein.

However, in this case, it does not mean that player can get Hans’ ending.

Hans is the most loyal character to Wein. When Wein betrayed by choosing to side with Wolfgang or Maximillian, Hans immediately followed Wein without hesitation.

Background

Hans is a boy from an orphanage in Starkberg. When his orphanage is attacked by monsters, he and his friends are saved by Wein.

After that, he began to look up to Wein as his master, and later reunited as a soldier of the Burnshtain.

1 year before he met Wein, Hans often stole potatoes in a farmer’s garden and earned the nickname potato thief.

But after he became a soldier, he apologized to the farmer and promised to protect the garden from monster attacks, plus he would advertise the potatoes from the garden.

Growlanser II The sense of justice

After an attack by a monster in Starkberg, Hans secretly followed Wein to a hidden ruin west of Starkberg. Then Hans joined Wein and Max to eradicate the monsters in the ruins. After that, Max ordered Hans to become an official Burnshtain soldier.

6 months later, Hans had officially become a Burnshtain soldier and was placed under Wein’s command. And after 6 months since Hans became Wein’s subordinate, they got a mission to investigate the armed group that attacked Rottenbaum Village which is near the border with Ranzack Kingdom.

While the party was passing through the Lost Forest on their way to the Magic Academy, Hans came across a small child crying because he was separated from his mother. Then Hans went to return the boy to his mother. After that he stated to Wein about his dream to have a warm family with a wife and child.

In the mission to save Karen, Hans played an active role by performing a fake escape and rescuing Karen who was a hostage.

One night, Hans witnessed Xenos visiting Zemekis’ grave to apologize, then Hans learned of the fact of his grandfather’s death through Carmine.

After hearing the story from Carmine, Hans gave up his intention to kill the person who killed his grandfather. Then he went to Xenos and stated that he had forgiven Xenos.

In the brainwashing route, he married a decided woman, who had no affection or warmth and simply obeyed orders, which was very different from Hans’ dream. This made Wein question his choice.

Growlanser III The dual darkness

In Growlanser III The dual darkness, Hans appears as an imported character.

However, he is not involved in the main story, and only appears a playable character.

His presence or absence will not affect the main story.

Players can talk to him to hear a few words from him. But he is not voiced in this game.

Growlanser IV Wayfarer of the time

Hans does not appear in the main story of Growlanser IV Wayfarer of the time. However he appeared at the ending of its OVA as fan service along with several other characters from Growlanser I to III.
