Personality

Karen has a very gentle personality and works devotedly for patients in sanatorium, but she has a shy personality and tends not to open her heart to anyone other than her brother.

Since Belger disappeared when she was 2-3 years old due to working as a mercenary, she was very much against Xenos when he wanted to start working as a mercenary.

In battle, he attacks with a magical bin (a bin that looks like a capsule-shaped drug) or a syringe, which has a great visual impact.

She is very fast at mastering healing magic and has INT almost as high as Ruise‘s. Also, since the bin is a weapon with attributes and has the property of ignoring the evasion rate, it is effective against enemies with a high evasion rate.

Background

Karen isn’t Belger’s biological daughter, so she’s not Xenos’ real sister. She is the daughter of Belger’s best friend and his wife, but her real father died after her mother became pregnant with her.

Belger’s wife, Shiera, died at the same time, and the Rangler family was in danger of raising a child.

So Belger was remarried with Karen’s mother when Xenos was 5 years old and Karen was still baby.

Because Xenos did not remember about his real mother and father remarrying, then Karen’s mother who was told died from overwork 10 years before the story started treating Xenos and Karen fairly as her biological children, causing Karen to believe that she was Belger’s biological child until the final phase of the story.

Growlanser I

When Carmine first met Karen, she was being targeted by bandits (Oswald’s group). In the middle of the fight, Xenos came and helped Carmine in protecting Karen. After that, they introduced themselves to Carmine.

Depending on when the player visited Grandshil, the party would be able to see the scene of Karen being attacked by bandits again. After that, Karen will be poisoned and treated in a sanatorium.

When the party tracked down the source of the voice singing the featherian song, Karen could be found in the sanatorium recovering and being treated by Irine.

Eventually, Karen overlapped her brother’s figure on Carmine to the degree that she called him “Nii-san”. From this moment on, she began to become able to have feelings for men other than her brother.

After Wallace told Xenos about Gamlan’s true personality, Karen was taken as a hostage by Gamlan to make Xenos obey. She was cursed by Gamlan so he would suffer or die if Gamlan uttered a key word. After getting help from Vice Principal Bradley, Karen’s curse was lifted and the party managed to save her.

After the event, Karen told Carmine that she fell in love with Xenos, and suffered from not being able to express it. But ever since she met Carmine, she’d been thinking about Carmine all the time.

After Venzern killed Belger, Belger revealed his true relationship with Karen before his death. If Belger was killed by Justin, he would die immediately without revealing his true relationship with Karen.

Growlanser II The sense of justice

Karen also appears in Growlanser II The sense of justice.

However this time she didn’t appear as a party member, but only as an NPC.

And this time she is voiced by a different seiyuu.

In this work, she is told that he already has his own clinic in Grandshil and often goes to the Magic Academy for business related to her clinic.

As happened in previous work, this time too she became the target of the bandits attack and became a hostage, who was later rescued by Wein and the party with the help of Xenos.
