Merklich “メークリッヒ” is the protagonist of Growlanser VI Precarious world.

He is a man who has lost his memory.

He is a member of the private army of the large international company Monopolis.

He is 二刀流 “Nitōryū” (a dual wield user) and has the shortest reach after Hofman among the vanguard types.

But basically all abilities are highly balanced All-rounder.

It is unclear whether the name Merklich was named by himself or the real name of Commander 13.

Background

His identity is one of many clones created by Commander 13, an executive of the invader Infinitō’s army, who arrived 2000 years ago. Unlike other clones, Merklich was not only obedient to orders, but had his own will.

He fought as Commander 13’s right hand with extraordinary excellence, and after being captured by the human army, he betrayed the invaders of his own will, and help 初代大地の巫女 “Shodai Daichi no Miko” (First Generation Land Shrine Maiden) to seal Infinitō in dragon orb.

After that, Commander 13 entrusted the next generation to him, and he went to cold sleep with other clones.

Every 200 years, one of the clones wakes up and has a mission to protect the Daichi no Miko of the present generation, and Merklich also wakes up as a Brave Guard who protects Iristelessa.

He then infiltrated the Yastill Detention Facility to rescue Iristelessa and Maxwell, who were captured by Monopolis. Although he was successfully rescued them, he suffered a deep chest wound when he escaped. Despite being seriously injured with a broken sword stuck in his chest, he confronts his pursuer alone to escape Iristelessa and suffers further fatal injuries.

He was brought to the Lennocks Research Institute in a dying state, placed in the “Brave Guard Pod” that had been requisitioned from the 大地の里 “Daichi no Sato” (Land Village), and survived by the healing function of the pod. It was difficult and urgent to pull it out, and as a result of healing with the broken blade stuck, a scar was left on his chest.

After his life was saved and living together with Anita, he was made a subject of time crystal implant surgery (a technique that can accompany a person with the time travel ability), and at that time he lost all his memory.

Before losing his memory, his cool and cold words and deeds stand out, but he has a passionate heart, such as giving Anita the energy to live and confronting the enemy army alone to escape Iristelessa and Maxwell.

After waking up as a Brave Guard, he has become a dual wield user, but when he was a subordinate of Commander 13, he was using 1 sword like his superior. It is unclear whether the name Merklich was named by himself or the real name of Commander 13.

Growlanser VI Precarious world

Awakened with memory loss, he and Wendy were assigned to the Monopolis Special Forces 赤狼隊 “Sekirō-tai” (Red Wolf Corps) after the Lennocks Research Institute was attacked by terrorists.

With the time travel ability, he learns that the cause of the world crisis lies in the time when the neighboring continent was sealed. Even though he has the ability to time travel, he can’t trigger the creation of the time distortion needed to return to the past.

But, his ability allows him to return to the past through the time distortion that has been created, or to go with someone who is able to create a time distortion, and he is able to keep his memories of the previous history that have been altered. These 2 abilities are not possessed by ordinary people, and only naturally possessed by fairies.

Later, when he learned that the upper management of Monopolis was suspicious, he and Wendy betrayed Monopolis.

Together with Wendy and Rukias, he struggles to prevent Shuweizer‘s attempts to change history and the various evil plans of the Monopolis company.

Throughout the story, he often dreams about Commander 13’s past, which is actually his own memory because he was near Commander 13 in the dream, but he was wearing a helmet so he wasn’t recognized.

After Iristelessa joins him, they find out the true identity of Brandole, the president of the Monopolis company possessed by Infinitō’s soul, and it was he who planned all the company’s evils.

After Infinitō left the company, Anita became the new president. Under the leadership of Anita, Merklich cooperates with various parties from other countries to resolve the internal conflicts of the countries on the Esgrenz continent. This is needed as a first step to prevent Brandole’s grand plan.

Then he went to Goatland to explain the situation and ask for their cooperation. After getting their cooperation to prevent Infinitō’s plans on the Goatland continent, Zeonsilt joined with Merklich and they returned to the Esgrenz continent.

After the soaring ship appeared, Merklich led the troops to raid the soaring ship to destroy the main body of Infinitō. After successfully cornering him, Merklich chased Infinitō who fled to the 2000 years ago. There, he merged with him in the past, and lost the ability to time travel.

Even so, he still carried out his mission and managed to defeat Infinitō. After that, he slept in the Brave Guard pod for 2000 years. After waking up he travels to various places to see the changing world as a result of the changed history of 2000 years ago.

The ending shown depends on the character chosen to accompany Merklich until the last moment in the final battle.

Growlanser V Generations

Merklich does not appear in the main game of Growlanser V Generations. However, in Growlanser VI he returned to the past to Growlanser V’s timeline.

He worked on various behind-the-scenes actions that unravel the mysteries of Growlanser V.

One of them is the event after Zeonsilt fainted when the Warslee village was attacked by Screapers.

Merklich managed to prevent Shuweizer from killing Zeonsilt while he was unconscious.

It also showed what happened to Rasche at that time which was not shown in the previous work.

Merklich was also working behind the scenes while Zeonsilt and his comrades were battling the Queen Screaper. Merklich used the way Zeakvalt would use if he had fought the Queen Screaper. It turns out that if Merklich wasn’t involved in this, Zeonsilt and his comrades wouldn’t have succeeded in defeating the Queen Screaper.

Drama CD

In Growlanser VI Drama CD, Merklich can speak of his own free will. Since the content of this cd is comedy, he doesn’t sound like the character shown in the main game before he lost his memory. He sounded like an ordinary guy with a personality befitting a comedy show.

Ending

To see his ending, choose the “someone who isn’t here” option when Yurry asks to choose a person to accompany Merklich until the last moment. If Neilis’s ending conditions are met, choose to ignore Neilis if meeting her after the last battle.

Seiyuu

Merklich is the silent protagonist in the main game. But before his memory was lost, he spoke of his own accord to Anita and Iristelessa. When rescuing Iristelessa from the Yastill Detention Facility, and in drama cd, he is voiced by:
