Fanil “ファニル” is the main heroine of Growlanser V Generations and the main character of 4th role.

(She is known as Fanille in localized version)

She is a researcher of Peace Maintenance Brigade who has high academic ability.

Personality

Fanil is not good at socializing and is reluctant to think about it, but she has an excellent brain and has a special ability to perfectly memorize books and figures what she has seen once.

Although she has high academic ability, she lacks calmness in terms of behavior and careless.

Throughout the story, there are many cases where she moves emotionally and cause trouble to others.

Her weapon is a rod which is a long-range attack. She is fast in learning both attack and recovery magic. HP and STR are extremely low, and MP and INT are by far the highest among party members.

Background

She is a citizen of Jaergen, and her late father was a former Jaergen Village Lord (currently her uncle is the lord). Her mother died before she could walk or talk, and her father died from overwork 2 years ago. She is Alessa’s childhood friend.

When Fanil was a child, she was not allowed by her father to go out alone because they were originally Grangalians and were considered outsiders by the citizens of Jaergen which was originally the territory of the Neylern Kingdom.

As a result, Fanil had no experience playing with children her age and had difficulty getting along with people, and she ended up reading his father’s book alone at home.

Until one day, they got a live-in servant who brought a daughter and became Fanil’s first friend, she was Alessa. The reason Fanil wanted to join PMB was because Alessa joined PMB.

She often played with Pernagi who lived in her house to hide himself from Eizack‘s subordinates.

At that time, Pernagi showed Fanil his research notes on Vital Energy written in human language. Fanil did not understand at all what Pernagi’s research notes meant. But after growing up and remembering it again, Fanil can understand it well. Then, Fanil adapted them to start her own research after joining PMB.

As one of PMB’s lead researchers, Fanil has been researching for an alternative to the energy of the land. Then she became interested in researching about fairies that can produce mana from plants. Since no one had done any proper research on fairies before, she ended up going to see fairies.

Fanil’s Role

In the fourth role, Fanil plays as main character. She who wants to start research on the energy produced by fairies finds it difficult to find bodyguards to accompany her to go outside the PMB headquarters, then she invites Chriass and Alessa to accompany her.

After that, they went to the Elphan forest, one of fairies dwellings. There, Fanil met Corin and offered Naton fruit so that Corin would talk to her. Suddenly a monster attacked Corin, then Chriass and Alessa appeared, then the 3 of them saved Corin. After that, Corin agreed to go with Fanil after getting permission from Matron Fairy.

When Fanil’s first experiment failed, Corin scolded her for not trying it before even though she had shut herself in the lab for a month. From then on, Corin always scolded her whenever Fanil acted carelessly.

Main Role

In Zeonsilt‘s role, Fanil is the main party member who joined since the theft of ancient weapon documents. She tried to ask for an explanation from Alessa who participated in the theft, but failed to stop Alessa. When Alessa is found unconscious with her heart not beating, Fanil looks shocked.

After fighting against the Mutant Screaper for the first time, Fanil showed her emotions again in response to Gyaricke’s attitude. Fanil looks angry and states that she hates Gyaricke. In Felmentia, Fanil showed her sadness to Zeonsilt for what happened to Alessa. Then, she also told about her parents. In Fanil’s short event after defeating the Mutant Screaper, she looked nervous as Zeonsilt continued to stare at her.

Fanil looked over excited when the party saw the mechanism for the entrance to the Neylern army’s secret base. Fanil refuted confidently when Chriass said she was overreacting and explained enthusiastically about the mechanism of the entrance.

When the party arrived at Totuwa, Fanil seemed to like the igloo and said she wanted to live in it. Later, she told Zeonsilt about her past with Alessa when they were little children. When Fanil met Pernagi in Juwaina, she asked Pernagi about their past, then Pernagi remembered about Fanil.

When Fanil found out about the secrets of Zeonsilt’s body, she was very shocked because the research she was doing ended up being used for human experiments. After being calmed by Randy, Fanil went to see Zeonsilt and became determined to find a way to cure Zeonsilt, and Eimy who had the same condition.

After checking the documents and getting hints from Chriass and Mervina, Fanil got the idea to apply time-freezing spell continuously on Zeonsilt with the help of the fairy, Corin. Thus, she could delay Zeonsilt’s condition from getting worse and get time to find a way to heal him.

After the battle against the final boss. Fanil spends her time researching with Pernagi in the lab on energy to restore soil fertility so that everyone can live prosperously.

Growlanser IV Wayfarer of the time

Fanil does not appear in the main story of Growlanser IV Wayfarer of the time. However she appeared in shadow at the ending of its OVA as trailer of Growlanser V along with several other characters.

Growlanser V Gaiden

In Growlanser V Gaiden, Fanil showed up to visit Alessa who was working hard on Queen Screaper’s vitality-absorbing device.

Worried about Alessa’s lack of rest, Fanil checked on her and offered to bring her something to eat.

Facing Alessa who felt guilty for her past betrayal, Fanil answered all of Alessa’s questions with straight answers and said that he had forgiven Alessa.

Fanil shared all her experiences during their time apart, and those experiences made her who she is today.

Despite all the growth she has shown, she still wants Alessa to be around as someone she can rely on.

After Alessa promised that she would rest, Fanil left her lab.

Growlanser VI Precarious world

Fanil is the only heroine who still has an active role in Growlanser VI Precarious world. Of course, not as a heroine for Merklich. If the player plays the Zeonsilt’s side quest, Fanil will show the progress of her research on how to heal Zeonsilt’s body.

Her panicky nature remained unchanged, but she became more active in asking for help and even took the initiative to go to another continent for the success of her research.

She asked Merklich to give her something from the Esgrenz continent for clues in processing his research.

Chriass respected Fanil’s decision for telling the condition of Zeonsilt’s body which was supposed to be an internal secret to Merklich’s party, and even praised her for developing into a reliable person.

At the Lennocks Research Center, she impressed researchers there with her perfect memory ability and even helped restore lost technology. After Zeonsilt was cured, Fanil extended her stay at the research center for a while to study technology.

Drama CD

Fanil appears in the drama cd of Growlanser V and VI. In the drama cd, she acts the same as seen in the main game, both in the serious story section and in the comedy section.

In Growlanser V Drama CD, there is a scene where he is teased by Corin for not knowing about starfish which causes him to become obsessed with studying living things.

In Growlanser VI Drama CD, she keep the attitude seen in the main game, but is mostly in charge of retorting.
