Yurry

Yurry “ユリィ” is a perfectionist fairy who is the mascot of Growlanser VI Precarious world.

She is also in charge of being the spokesperson for the protagonist of Growlanser VI.

However, she is not an original Growlanser VI character and has already appeared since Growlanser V.

(She is known as Yurii in localized version of Growlanser V).

Appearance

Yurry has long black hair and golden eyes.

Yurry always dresses up as a 大和撫子”Yamato Nadeshiko” (woman who displays the feminine virtues of old Japan).

Almost all of her costumes are 和服 “Wafuku” (Japanese Clothes).

Her main costume is 着物”Kimono” with the dominant color pink. She has a different style from the previous work, The make-up applied in the previous work has come off and the face is bare, but the costume in the previous work can still be used.

Personality

As depicted by a Yamato Nadeshiko, Yurry is a feminine fairy, but a perfectionist.

She loves Futon dogs and hates insects.

In the world of Growlanser V and VI, fairies are depicted as innocent existences and will not lie to anyone.

But Yurry doesn’t look like that, she actually looks like the opposite of Corin who depicts this side the most.

Yurry looks mature, smart, polite to everyone, and there is a scene where she lies, then tells Wendy, lying is also useful sometimes.

However, perhaps due to being influenced by Corin’s personality, only when she spoke to Corin did Yurry look honest, childish, and say anything without holding back. Yurry looked so annoyed when she thought Corin had visited her to boast of victory of fairy contest in Corin’s ending.

In Growlanser V, Yurry seems to dislike Corin, and is often angry with her. But in Growlanser VI, Yurry seems to enjoy teasing Corin. She looked happy and a little embarrassed when Corin relied on her. And they seemed to agree with each other when it came to dealing with the Dungeon Lady.

Background

There is a prophecy that has been passed down since 2000 years ago among us fairies when the Goatland continent was closed.

『When the seal on this continent is broken, a Yūsha (Brave One) will appear again. O strong fairies, you must help that Yūsha, and regain world peace』

The reason she put so much effort into winning the fairy contest was to increase the chances of meeting a famous person.

When the party visited the Elphan Forest, Yurry explained that the place is one of several fairies dwelling. Then she introduced herself to the fairy in that forest that she is a fairy from the eastern desert.

Growlanser V Generations

Yurry’s first appearance was in Growlanser V Generations after Zeonsilt and friends managed to defeat the Mutant Screaper in Geilanach. Since then she has been seen arguing with Corin.

If player succeeds in helping Corin win the fairy contest, Yurry will be defeated by Corin, and Corin will become the new Queen of Pixies.

Before the decisive battle against Queen Screaper, she told Zeonsilt about the future she felt.

It contained the ominous thing that “2 comrades die”.

And that became a reality when Seldiss and Eizack slammed into the Admonisher in an attempt to hit the unscathed Queen Scraper with the Admonisher’s artillery and self-destructed.

At the same time, she also left a statement suggesting that after Zeonsilt defeated Queen Screaper, there would be a lot of casualties as a result. It’s unclear whether she meant the casualties from the Queen Screaper proliferated, or the victims killed by Shuweizer, or the victims of all events caused by Infinitō.

Growlanser VI Precarious world

When Merklich and Wendy had been washed ashore on the coast of Warslee Village, Yurry protected them. Yurry believes that Merklich is Yūsha (Brave One) in the prophecy, and she became his partner.

In this work, she is still known as the Queen of Pixies by the soldiers of Grangale. It’s unclear whether the event that Corin won the fairy contest never happened, or that it happened but the news hasn’t spread since Yurry is already famous with that title.

Throughout the game, there is no talk about whether Yurry managed to defend the title or was taken by Corin. Maybe it’s left to the player’s imagination regarding that.

Yurry is in charge of guiding Merklich and friends during their trip on the Goatland continent and explaining the situation there. When, Merklich and friends returned to the Esgrenz continent, she continued to follow them.

However, on the Esgrenz continent, she no longer acted as a guide, but became the side that inquired about the situation there.

While visiting the Shizāz village, she meets an old man who tells the legend of the Growlanser. She was attracted to one of the endings of the legend where a fairy asked a witch to turn herself into a human in order to have a relationship with Yūsha.

From this point on Yurry’s side quest begins, and this quest will be the deciding factor in getting her ending.

In the middle of their journey, Yurry often met the Dungeon Lady and scolded her for her pranks. She ended up earning the nickname 説教妖精”Sekkyō Yōsei” (Preaching Fairy) from the Dungeon Lady.

At the final phase of the game, she recommends Merklich and friends to ask PMB for help in dealing with Infinitō’s plans, which leads to Zeonsilt joining the party.

If the conditions are met, her ending will be displayed where she turns into a human. For endings other than that, she will remain in the form of a fairy.

Growlanser I

In Growlanser I psp version, a fairy out of 5 fairies in the fairy cafe appears in the form of Yurry wearing maid costume.

She also introduced herself by the name “Yurry”.

She seems to enjoy teasing Corin too here.

In this work, she is not voiced, but player can enjoy conversing with her.

If player continues to make the right choices, she will give a reward in the last event.

Drama CD

In Growlanser VI Drama CD, she still behaves the same as seen in the main game. She also showed her competitive attitude with Corin until the end. In reply to Corin’s voice actor comment at the end of the session, her voice actor also wished she could see scene of Yurry on good terms with Corin.
