Frane Robbins “フレーネ・ロビンス” is the main heroine of Growlanser IV Wayfarer of the time.

(She is known as “Frayne” in localized version)

She is a ruin child who was found sleeping in the ruins. However, due to an incomplete awakening process, she lost almost all of her memories.

Appearance

Frane is 16 years old and her height is 155cm. She has emerald-colored eyes and long violet hair.

Frane appears in 3 different outfits in the main game, fan disc, and OVA.

But the color of the clothes is almost the same, a combination of white and violet.

Personality

Frane has a kind-hearted personality and likes to observe various things, probably because she has lost her memory.

She also has a talent for painting. Her favorite food is plain food, and she prefers Valcaneer cuisine.

She doesn’t seem to like rats, and according to familiar’s soliloquy, she fainted when Leona showed her a field mouse.

Usually, she speaks politely, but sometimes she speaks in a casual tone appropriate to her age. Basically, she addresses everyone with “san” or “chan”. Only Blunteer, with whom she a close relationship in the past, is called by nickname (Blun).

Her weapon is crystal ball. She is a typical mage type who is the strongest among the party members when it comes to magic, but is the weakest in other fields. Her limit abilities are also specialized in magic.

Background

She is a Ruin Child, and she is found by Crevaniel and party when she was sleeping in the ruins. It is known that the oldest Ruin Child is around 10 years old, but because she was small for her age, she was able to enter a cold sleep device.

For that reason, Roomise expected her to be more knowledgeable about the circumstances of the past than other Ruin Children, but the angel Achiel, attacked the ruins, so the awakening process that should have been done over time was incomplete, she lost most of her memory.

However, she vaguely remembers the angels and Crevaniel, and in particular, she clearly remembers Blunteer, calling him by his nickname at the time (Blun). She also has the knowledge of ancient languages.

She was an angelic child. Originally, she was adored as “onee-chan” by Crevaniel and Blunteer, but because the two awakened 15 years earlier, her physical age is now younger than them. For unknown reasons, the two hid Frane’s diary.

Growlanser IV Wayfarer of the time

Frane appeared for the first time in Crevaniel’s dream when he was knocked out by an angel attack. She encouraged Crevaniel to rise from his critical moment.

After some time, she was found sleeping in the ruins by Crevaniel and party. When the awakening process was still running, an angel suddenly attacked. Crevaniel and the party escaped carrying Frane without completing her awakening process. As a result, she lost most of her memory. Yet, somehow she remembered Crevaniel.

After that, she was taken to the base for interrogation. Without memory, she couldn’t provide any information. When the human experimentation on ruin children occurred, she was rescued by Rems and Crevaniel, then she fled with them to Marcurey.

During the attack of an angel in Fandelcia, Frane and Crevaniel fainted, then they had a dream about angels who love humans. Then, when they were about to leave Fandelcia, Frane was filled with worry because she didn’t have enough memory to answer Eraiza‘s question, so she made Eraiza angry.

When Crevaniel took her to the art exhibition for the first time, Frane was deeply moved. That was also the trigger for her to start making her own paintings. Then she decided to paint a scene of Marcurey as her first work.

As she started to paint, she remembered a scene that looked like a prison. She also remembered that those memories were a part of her past, where she got along well with the two children. However, she couldn’t remember their names.

After the death of a familiar, Frane teamed up with Rems to create a familiar of the same type. But it wasn’t the same existence as the previous one.

At one point, Frane asked Crevaniel and some children to play hide and seek. If she was the last to be found, she would be happy.

After some time, they told Gordran about Frane’s painting. Gordran, who was impressed with Frane’s painting, asked her to display it in the museum. Seeing so many people who came to see his paintings, Frane was very happy.

Afterwards, Gordon asked Frane to paint a seascape outside Marcurey. Yesterday when the party visited Trucker, Frame asked for a bit of time to draw a seascape there.

While the party was exploring the ruins in Marcurey area, Frane and Crevaniel fainted again. They were shown a part of their memories in a surgery room.

When the party found the small cannon, everyone in the party had no idea what it was except for Frane.
It was only then that it was shown that Frane’s memories of her knowledge of ancient objects and languages still remained.

When they revisited the prison, Frane regained some of her memories. She remembered that she and 2 other children were transplanted with angelic factors so that they could be used as weapons to defeat the angels.

In order to know more about angels and Frane’s past, the party returned to the ruins where Decsen died. There, they reunited with Blunteer and learned the truth about angelic children and angels. When Frane found out that Crevaniel was one of the children from her past, she was very happy. She also thanked Crevaniel who had kept his diary in the ruins.

In the fight against Achiel, Blunteer took the Frane’s astral power which caused her to lose the angelic factor within her body. After defeating Achiel and seeing the memories of the angels, Frane and the party actually inherited the will of the angels.

At one point, Frane wanted to draw a creature named Slym. A farmer in Klasdahl knows a clue to find Slym. After getting masylume leaves in Riesel, Slym appeared when the party passed under the bridge south of Riesel. After painting it, Frane thanked the party, then the Slym disappeared.

On the last vacation, Frane took Crevaniel on a tour of the city, including visiting the museum. After confirming that they had become lovers, Frane took Crevaniel to the harbor. There, Frane asked Crevaniel to let her paint him after the magic removal was successful. And they made a promise there.

After the successful magic removal, Frane was forgotten by Eraiza for a while. But, Eraiza immediately remembered about her. Frane was very confused and sad to see everyone forget about Crevaniel. Frane is the only character who remembers about Crevaniel in all endings.

Growlanser Aratanaru Densetsu

In Growlanser Aratanaru Densetsu, Frane appears in three side stories: Frane no kaiga kyōshitsu (Frane’s Painting Class), Hien no kenjutsu shinan (Hien’s Swordsmanship Instruction), and Mei tantei Eraiza no odoru daijigen-bo (The Great Dancing Casebook of Eraiza the Famous Detective).

1. Frane no kaiga kyōshitsu (Frane’s Painting Class)

Frane no kaiga kyōshitsu tells the story of Frane teaching painting techniques to Eraiza.

Eraiza asked Frane to teach her how to paint as it was one of the fields that a noble needed to know.

This story took place some time after Frane’s painting was displayed at the museum.

At first, Frane didn’t seem confident in her skill, but in the end she agreed to teach Eraiza how to paint.

Then, they painted roses together. After that, the two of them complimented each other’s paintings.

2. Hien no kenjutsu shinan (Hien’s Swordsmanship Instruction)

Hien no kenjutsu shinan tells the story of Hien teaching swordsmanship to the party members.

This story took place some time after Regiena joined the team.

At first, Eraiza asked Hien to teach her swordsmanship.

However, due to his insensitivity, he misunderstood and thought that everyone who came there wanted to practice swordsmanship from him.

Frane appeared in the middle of the story and also had a misunderstanding, thus involving more people in swordsmanship training.

But due to her incompatibility with swordsmanship, her attacks never hit her training opponent and ended up falling on her own.

3. Mei tantei Eraiza no odoru daijigen-bo (The Great Dancing Casebook of Eraiza the Famous Detective)

Mei tantei Eraiza no odoru daijigen-bo tells the story when Eraiza receives a request to investigate a case.

This story also took place some time after Regiena joined the team.

Eraiza gets a request from princess Arisea to find a stolen royal item.

In this story, Frane appears at the end and helps Eraiza find the chest where the item is hidden.

Frame praised Elaiza for being able to solve the mystery and called her the famous detective.

Growlanser IV Wayfarer of the time Return

In Growlanser IV Wayfarer of the time Return, Frane appears in the GLIV Return section, in the third chapter: 帰還”Kikan” (Return).

This story is a direct sequel to the ending scene in Growlanser Wayfarer of the time. It’s been 2 months since Crevaniel returned to his original era thanks to Gloria‘s power.

Frane rented a house on Marcuria beach to live with Crevaniel. Their comrades who forgot about Crevaniel eventually remembered him thanks to the sketches of him painted by Frane.

In this story, Frane appears with a new outfit.

Crevaniel and Frane traveled to various places in the Noyeval continent while reminiscing about various events that occurred.

They visited the Ordinale City, the mountain pass where they rescued Leona, the place of the battle where they protected the flag of the Ordinale army, the place where Maggy shot an angel using a spellcannon, and they ended up at the Kaufman waterfall.

After that, they camped in the forest while talking about their past.

Frane also appears in the OVA bundled with this game. It is a direct sequel to chapter: Return which tells about the situation of the world including Frane and several other characters.

In OVA, Frane appears in another different outfit.

Growlanser IV OVER RELOADED

Original Route

This route more or less tells everything that happened in the Growlanser IV Wayfarer of the time.

Due to the involvement of additional characters, there are several additional stories on original route that don’t exist in the PS2 version.

However, whether Frane will be present in the additional events depends on the player bringing her in the party or not.

There is a slight change in the ending as well. They changed Frane’s CG which depicts her painting Crevaniel’s image to a simple Frane’s image.

New Routes

Growlanser IV OVER RELOADED contains 2 new routes, an extended route based on the original story, and the Dulkheim route that was created by ignoring the original story.

1. Extended Route

There are no much changes to Frane’s events on this route. All the conditions needed to get Frane’s ending are the same.

As for the new events, it’s the same as the original route, whether Frane will be present in the new events depends on the player bringing her in the party or not.

On FMV after the last fight, Frane thanked Eraiza for saving them when they had just escaped from Dulkheim.

She also mentioned that if it were not for that, maybe the world would not be saved.

Since Crevaniel did not disappear after the final battle, a different ending was prepared, but with a shorter duration and without CG.

Crevaniel returned to Marcurey and reunited with Frane without any serious drama. Due to that, this route has nothing to do with Growlanser IV Wayfarer of the time Return.

2. Dulkheim Route

After his eighth vacation, Crevaniel received a letter from Rudvich containing an apology and negotiations.

Crevaniel then parted ways with some of his comrades and returned to Dulkheim. One of the comrades who followed him was Frane.

Since Dulkheim is an enemy nation of the Marcureys, they often have to deal with their former comrades. Every time that happened, Frane felt very sad.

Depending on the choice, Frane will try to stop Crevaniel who continues to kill his former comrades.

If so, Frane would betray Crevaniel and join forces with his former comrades, and Crevaniel will have no choice but to kill her.

There is no romantic ending in this route.

Drama CD

In Growlanser IV drama cd, Frane acts the same as seen in the main game. Since this is only a partial retelling of the main game’s story, Frane doesn’t change much. One of the notable things is that she actually chants an incantation when performing magic.
